Satanás (Satan). 2006. Colombia. Written and directed by Andres Baiz Ochoa. With Marcela Mar, Damián Alcázar, Blas Jaramillo. Coproduction with Mexico. This beautifully controlled debut feature tells a trio of interwoven stories in which passion, violence, and secrets collide. Inspired by real events, the film skillfully traces the fateful interconnectedness of a beautiful hustler, a priest lusting after his housekeeper, and a repressed teacher living with his mother and longing to break the tedium of his existence. The film's insight into the psychological dimensions of good and evil is illuminated through perceptive visuals, as the destructive outward manifestations of inner conflicts are organically revealed in all their terror. In Spanish; English subtitles. 95 min. New York premiere. Introduced by Ochoa
